Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Class 58 Locomotive Group

The Class 58 Locomotive Group (C58LG) is dedicated to preserving, restoring, and celebrating the iconic British Rail Class 58 locomotives. Since their introduction in the 1980s, these distinctive locomotives have earned a special place in the hearts of rail enthusiasts and the Railway sector. Our mission is to preserve the legacy of the Class 58 for future generations. With only a limited number of these locos surviving into preservation, our efforts are focused on these remaining few locomotives and ensuring they live on for future generations.

Restoration of 58 016

One of our key projects is the ongoing restoration of 58 016. This locomotive, which served with pride for many years, is now undergoing a comprehensive restoration to return it to full working order. The team are working tirelessly to repair, refurbish, and reassemble critical components.

58 023’s First Run in Preservation

We are also thrilled to celebrate a significant milestone for the class: the successful first run of 58 023 in preservation!

After many years of hard work, this locomotive recently completed its first heritage railway test run at the Seven Valley Railway, marking a significant achievement and a huge step forward in our preservation efforts. Seeing 58 023 back in action on the rails has been a moment of immense pride for everyone involved and is a testament to the dedication and passion of the C58LG for over 20 years.
